NYC’s Last Redbird Subway Car is for sale!


Redbird subway car #9075 was retired in 2003, Redbird Car #9075 is located at Queens Borough Hall, at the corner of Queens Boulevard and 82nd Avenue.


 


The 50-foot, 40-ton car was once used to transport visitors to and from the 1964 World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.


Most of these subway cars ended up in the Atlantic Ocean to form a reef barrier.


Beginning in 2001, the Redbirds were replaced with newer stainless-steel cars.



They were the last of the painted passenger trains, and the last to have tear-shaped metal hand grips for straphangers.


The cars were built between 1959 and 1963. For more info read:

Items are being sold in an "AS IS" and "WHERE IS" condition. Inspection is recommended. You are expected to load your own item(s). Be prepared to load your item(s) from a dock. If you cannot carry or lift, you will need to bring someone with you.


We cannot ship item(s). Bidders may contact a local shipping company to pick up package and ship their item(s).


At the close of the auction, the winning bidder will be expected to present a detailed plan on the plan to retrieve the Redbird from its current location. The plan must contain details on vendor(s) being utilized, proposed pick up date (must be within 10 business days of auction closing), and details on vehicles being used for pick up.



If the successful bidder is unable or unwilling to remove the item(s) from the agency’s premises within either (five) business days of notification by Public Surplus of receipt of payment or within ten (10) business days after notification of award,  (whichever occurs first). The agency reserves the right to:  (1) dispose of the item through another auction; (2,) charge the successful bidder for continued storage of the item until it can be properly removed or (3) in instances where payment has been received, reimburse the Buyer the full purchase price he or she paid.


 


The Agency reserves the right to declare Buyer in Default.  Default shall include: (1) failure to observe these terms and conditions ; (2) failure to make proper and timely payment; or (3) failure to remove all items within the specified time agreed to by the Buyer and the Agency, in the event the Agency has pre-approved transportation plans for the removal of the auctioned items.


 


**ALLSHIPPING/HANDLING AND RETURN FEES WILL BETHE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER.**
